Final Day

So today will be my final post for Genius Hour and honestly this gives me a mixture of happiness and a slight sadness, I'll miss this topic a a bit but its good to be done with the research. Anyway here are the final questions I will be answering here.
1. What was your favorite part of the topic you chose?
2. What was your least favorite part of the topic you chose?
3. What do you like best about Genius Hour research?
4. What do you like least about Genius Hour research?
5. What was the most important thing you learned about yourself, how you learn, or research in general as a result of this work?
1: My overall favorite part about this topic was really just learning more about the history of games and their influence on others
2: My least favorite part about this topic was finding good, accurate sources because at least 30 websites said the exact same WRONG thing.
3: My favorite part about Genius Hour was simply seeing other peoples topics and research or the presentations that i have seen so far.
4: Again like I said my least favorite part was how hard it was to find real sites that had good, credible, and accurate information.
5: Finally what i have learned from Genius Hour is that it is a lot harder than I thought to actually find research and read through so many pages for so long
So thank you all for reading and keeping up with me and my progress! Bye!!

Consoles Throught The Years

So today in class I started to look at the main evolution and how the consoles interacted throughout the years. As it turns out the first official game console was the Magnavox Odyssey by Ralph H. Baer. It pre-dated the Atari by just over three years! Followed by the Fairchild Channel F which, was soon majorly taken over by the Atari 2600. After that several other consoles came out but Atari stayed on top. That was up until the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Sega Genesis came, these to companies where the two that started the modern day Console Wars. Once again a few years later a new company joined the mix, Playstation. Now it went on between the Nintendo 64 (N64), the Playstation, and the new Sega Dreamcast. And once again a new console/company enters, Microsoft with the Xbox. Around 2002 the console war was between The Playstation 2, The Xbox, and the Nintendo Gamecube. These three companies went on and still are the dominant 3 consoles along with the PC. Also below i have added a picture of the Magnavox Odyssey along with a picture showing all known consoles, when they came out, and when they were taken off market.

Early History

So today in class I learned a few things about the history of games and video games. Such as the first found board game being the Royal Game of Ur dating all the way back to 3000 B.C. Also some of the origins of early gaming technology starting with simply making machines that play board games to the legendary Pong or Zork. I also found out how the first early video games werent "original" as they were mainly machines made specifally to play a game like tennis, only on a screen

Genius Hour

This year for Genius Hour my driving question is "How have games evolved over the years?" For this I will be finding out where games started and how they got to where they are now. I hope i can find most of the answers i am looking for, as I have been wondering about this for quite a while.
